Associate Principal's Message

 Amy M. Kerins was born in Baltimore, Maryland and is a product of the Baltimore City public school system. An educator for 26 years, Mrs. Kerins has served as teacher, reading specialist,  member of the school leadership team, and was recently appointed as the Assistant Principal of Frederick Douglass Elementary School. 

Mrs. Kerins started her career in Charles County, Maryland as a middle school English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher.She later went to elementary where she taught first, second, and fourth grade. Mrs. Kerins’ family relocated to Delaware in 2006, and she was employed at Epworth Christian School for six years and has been employed by the Seaford School District for the past seven years primarily as a reading specialist. 

Mrs. Kerins received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Salisbury University and her master’s in education from Walden University with an emphasis in reading and literacy. She obtained Delaware School Leader Certification from the FLEX (Fostering Leadership Excellence) Program which provided 600 internship hours in administrative leadership. Last year, she completed certification to be a Wilson Reading Dyslexia Practitioner and spent the year establishing the Wilson reading intervention at FDES. 

Mrs. Kerins is married to her college sweetheart, Chris, and has three adult daughters. She enjoys traveling, reading, and cooking. She assists her husband in leading the worship department at their church, The House of Praise for All People. Mrs. Kerins lives by the motto, “Dream it, Do it!” and hopes to instill that in the lives of all she encounters.
